Head of Communications, Zap Energy

Andy Freeberg is the Head of Communications at Zap Energy, leading the company’s efforts to engage and educate key audiences about Zap’s work to unlock the transformative potential of fusion energy. 

Mr. Freeberg has a long track record in science and technology communications prior to Zap, including as Head of Creative Communications at the U.S. Department of Energy’s SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory at Stanford University, Multimedia and Public Affairs Lead at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, and as Strategic Communications Director for the University of Washington’s Pacific Marine Energy Center. In his roles, Mr. Freeberg has supported science and communications initiatives for an array of world leading projects and companies including the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, the Large Hadron Collider, the Vera C. Rubin Observatory, UW Mechanical Engineering, Enphase Energy, the Computer History Museum, Virgin Islands National Park, and many others.

Mr. Freeberg earned his Master of Fine Arts in Science and Natural History Filmmaking from Montana State University-Bozeman and a BS with a double major in Radio/Television/Film and Environmental Science from Northwestern University. He serves on the board of the Association of Science Communicators and is a member of the Northwest Science Writers Association.
